Lakhimpur Kheri has set an inspiring example by successfully implementing Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s "Mission Maidan", proving that the expansion of sports facilities in schools directly impacts student attendance and overall development.
Under this initiative, the district has developed high-quality playgrounds in 1,000 council schools, enabling children to enhance their physical and mental well-being. The positive effects of "Mission Maidan" are clearly visible, as Lakhimpur Kheri’s Nipun Assessment Rank has jumped from 72nd to 26th place. Moreover, student attendance has witnessed a remarkable 12% increase, rising from 57.24% last year to 69.40% at present.
District Magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal stated that "Mission Maidan" was launched to help children develop confidence, discipline, and teamwork. As part of this initiative, playgrounds for Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Volleyball, and Badminton have been set up in 765 schools, while 205 schools now have facilities for Hockey, Football, Cricket, and Athletics.

He further mentioned that in order to further promote sports, 30 schools have introduced rooftop indoor gaming zones, where students can play Chess, Carrom, Mind Games, Symmetry Games, and Table Tennis. Additionally, all council school students in Lakhimpur Kheri now begin their day with a 30-minute sports activity. This not only enhances their physical and mental well-being but also improves their concentration and learning abilities.

Notably, the success of this initiative has been supported by MGNREGA and local resources, providing employment to rural workers and boosting economic empowerment. This effort has proven that when the administration, community, and government work together, even the most challenging goals can be achieved.

"Mission Maidan" is more than just a sports program—it is a powerful platform for fostering essential life skills among children. It has opened new doors for those who previously lacked access to sports facilities, making Lakhimpur Kheri’s initiative a model of inspiration for the entire state.
