Lakhimpur Kheri. With the aim of providing prompt and better treatment to road accident victims, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Santosh Gupta held an important meeting with office bearers of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to integrate private hospitals into the system. Detailed information about government facilities and schemes available to patients injured in road accidents was shared during the meeting.
CMO Dr. Santosh Gupta stated that if a person injured in a road accident is admitted to a private hospital within 24 hours, they will receive free treatment up to a maximum of Rs. 1.5 lakh for one week. The entire cost of this treatment will be borne by the government and paid to the private hospital, thus relieving the financial burden on the patient and their family.
He further explained that under the Rahveer Yojana (Good Samaritan Scheme), citizens who help transport an accident victim to a hospital via ambulance or other means will also be encouraged. Such helpful individuals will receive an incentive of Rs. 25,000. For this, the concerned hospital will have to maintain records of the person who brought the victim to the hospital. To ensure transparency in both schemes, benefits will be provided only after police verification.
He stated that road accidents remain a serious challenge for the country and the state. According to statistics, more than 1.6 lakh people die in road accidents every year in the country, while more than 4.5 lakh people are injured. In Uttar Pradesh, more than 20,000 road accidents are reported annually, resulting in serious injuries to thousands of people. Involving private hospitals will ensure timely treatment for the injured and help reduce fatalities in accidents.
The meeting was attended by ACMO Dr. S.P. Mishra, Program Nodal Officer Deputy CMO Dr. Dhaniram, Deputy CMO Dr. Pramod Verma, Deputy CMO Dr. Amitesh Dwivedi, along with IMA President Dr. Akhilesh Khare, Dr. Akhilesh Verma, and Dr. Manoj Sharma.
