Who was M. G. Ramachandran (MGR)?

M. G. Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, was a superstar of Tamil cinema as well as an influential political leader. He was born on January 17, 1917. In his films, he often played the role of a benefactor of the poor, the oppressed, and the underprivileged, which endeared him to the masses.

MGR conveyed social messages to the masses through his film career. Later, he entered politics and founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). He served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1977 to 1987.
